Building a Sustainable Future: 2022 and Beyond

A-Gas will release a Sustainability Statement later in the year which shows how we are progressing towards our goal of reducing our emissions in line with our Sustainability Pledge.

In 2021, A-Gas announced it had pledged to become a Net-Zero company by the year 2035, with 50% emissions cut by 2028.

With the commitment and contribution from the A-Gas team worldwide, over the course of 2021 the company has been able to complete a carbon footprint scoping exercise. The results were submitted to independent third-party external auditors, ERM CVS, who have reviewed the figures and released an assurance statement.

This statement validates the figures A-Gas released for 2019 and 2020 and becomes the foundation for the company’s emission reduction program. It provides the basis for identifying the areas of the business with the most significant emissions and allows us to continue our sustainability journey to lower them; this includes improving engineering designs, onsite processing, and incorporating new processes into our existing ISO Safety, Quality and Environmental Management systems.

A-Gas will release a Sustainability Statement later in the year which shows how we are progressing towards our goal of reducing our emissions in line with our Sustainability Pledge.

To lead, manage and develop these improvements going forward, Elvira Nigido has been appointed to the role of Group Sustainability Compliance Manager. Elvira will be responsible for embedding Sustainability into all A-Gas procedures and systems, and managing the Group’s carbon footprint process, in line with achieving A-Gas’ sustainability objectives.

“In the history of our company, including the acquisitions we’ve made along the way, it has never been more important than at this present moment to be innovative, collectively aligned, and to challenge our business to continue to rise up to our focused purpose of building a sustainable future for both A-Gas and our customers and stakeholders,”  comments Elvira, “The beauty of what lies ahead from a normalisation and embedding sustainability perspective is that we have very talented and passionate people across all parts of our business that will help create the opportunities in support of our sustainability goals.”

Elvira brings a wealth of global expertise to her new role having worked in the halon and refrigerants industry for over 25 years. Since joining A-Gas over 9 years ago, Elvira has had various international roles, from leading the Environmental Services Business unit in the USA, to overseeing the management of the Australian National Halon Bank for the Australian Government. Elvira is the Australian representative of the United Nations Environment Programme Halon Technical Options Committee and has contributed to various UN TEAP Task Force Reports.
