Is a National HFC Phasedown Coming for the U.S.?

Yesterday, Senators John Kennedy (R-La) and Tom Carper (D- Del) introduced The American Innovation and Manufacturing Act of 2019 to the Senate. In the absence of the ratification of the Kigali Amendment, this new act would give the U.S. EPA the authority to develop a national phase-down schedule of HFCs due to their high global warming potential.

The new bill was initiated from a letter sent on October 8th from the CEOs of 32 HVACR and water heater manufacturers urged the government to support the phase-down. Our President, Mike Armstrong was one of the signatories of this letter. When asked, Mike had this to say, “A-Gas Americas actively supports the AIM Act of 2019.  It reflects a progressive, bi-partisan policy to protecting our environment, while strengthening the economy.  I’m proud of all of the teams that have progressed the legislation to this point.”
